The base is built before the tile
Cracked grout is almost never a grout problem. It is movement underneath. Backer board and an uncoupling membrane cost a fraction of doing the floor twice.
Tile and ceramic work is half of what we do in Columbus: bathroom floors, shower walls, kitchen backsplashes and entryways. Tile is unforgiving, which is exactly why the base under it matters more than the tile you picked out.
What is included
This is what sits inside the number we quote for tile & ceramic. Hold it next to another bid and the difference will be obvious.

Around here
From December to March everything that hits a Columbus entryway arrives with salt in it. Salt and slush eat unsealed grout and dull soft tile, which is why the entry is usually the first floor in the house to look tired. Pick the right material for that spot and seal it properly and it stops being the room you apologize for.

Why us for this
Cracked grout is almost never a grout problem. It is movement underneath. Backer board and an uncoupling membrane cost a fraction of doing the floor twice.
We dry lay the floor so the cut pieces end up at the wall and the pattern carries through the doorway instead of dying in it.
If a tile loosens or a grout line opens on our work, we come back and take care of it.
How it works
We look at the substrate, the layout and where the water goes, then measure.
Backer board, membrane and waterproofing appear as their own lines so you can see what a cheaper bid left out.
Old surface out, substrate made flat and sound, wet areas waterproofed and tested.
Dry layout, tile set, grout, caulk at the changes of plane, then we walk it with you.
FAQ
A bathroom floor is a few days. A full shower takes longer because waterproofing has to cure before tile goes on, and we do not rush that step.
Usually movement under the tile: a flexing subfloor, or no membrane between the substrate and the tile. Regrouting hides it for a season and then it comes back.
Sometimes, if it is bonded well and the height works at the doors. We check rather than assume, because tile over a failing floor fails with it.
Yes. Sloped base, bonded membrane over walls and pan, sealed corners and penetrations, tested before any tile goes up. It is the step you never see and the only one holding water out of the framing.
Large format means fewer grout lines and a flatter substrate requirement. Mosaic handles slope, which is why shower floors use it. Your room decides.
Yes, across the metro within about 30 miles, including Dublin, Westerville, New Albany, Bexley, Hilliard and Grove City.
